The body has three main lines of defense against pathogens. They are as follows:

First line of defense: Skin, Mucous membranes, and Secretions of skin and mucous membranes

Second line of defense: Phagocytic white blood cells, Antimicrobial proteins, and the Inflammatory response

Third line of defense: Lymphocytes, and Antibodies
