A variable is a measurement that can take different "values". I put values in quotation marks because a variable can take qualitative values (for example, colour of eye) as well as quantitative (numerical) ones.

What describes the dependant variable in an experiment?

It is the variable in an experiment is not directly altered throughout the entire experiment and responds to the manipulated variable.

Which statement describes the independent variable?

The independent variable is freely set by the experimenter, whereas, the dependent variable (presumably) depends of values of the independent variable.

What describes a fraction that has a variable or variable expression in its numerator its denominator or both?

There is no specific name. If the numerator and denominator are polynomials in the variable then the question describes an algebraic fraction. But there is no reason at all to assume that they are polynomials. There is no specific phrase that describes sin(x)/x, for example.

Which describes the dependent variable in an experiment?

A dependent variable is a measurement of an experiment. A dependent variable relies on other variables in order for the measurement to have a result.
