Dependent variable is the one that is the same and independent is the one that is being changed to see how it affects the dependent variable.

Example: You want to discover what makes your dog hate his/her dog food. The food is Kibble and Bits so theres a mixture of vegetable, meat, and chicken.

Dependent= your dog because you are trying to figure out why he/she isn't eating. The dog is what stays constant in this experiement (not changing)

Independent= the dog food because in order to find out what your dog doesn't like you have to test if she/he hates the vegetable, meat or chicken pieces. So you separate them and this is what changes.

What do you call the variable that is measured when conducting a experiment?

The dependent variable.

What are the main parts of of a controlled experiment?

The main parts of a controlled experiment are the dependent variable and the independent variable. The dependent variable is what is measured in the experiment. The independent variable is the variable that is varied or manipulated by the researcher. The independent variable is the presumed cause, whereas the dependent variable is the presumed effect.

What are you testing in an experiment?

You are testing the independent variable. The dependent variable is the one being measured.

What factor that is measured as a result of the change in an experiment?

Dependent variable. The independent variable is the factor that is changed during the experiment. The dependent variable is the factor that is measured. Written in an "if-then" statement, the IV follows the "if" and the DV follows the "then."

What are the dependent and independent variables in the experiment?

The independent variable can be located on the x-axis, it also means its the thing in the experiment that you change. The dependent variable is located on the y-axis, and is what you are using to measure your independent variable. The independent variable is a variable that changes. The dependent variable is a variable that is measured and used for data.

Would battery be the independent variable and flashlight dependent variable in an experiment?

Nope. Dependent Variable is the variable that is being tested/measured while Independent variable is the variable is that can be changed.

What is being measured in a science experiment?

in a science experiment many things are measured. it depends on what experiment one is conducting.

What is the factor being measured in a controlled experiment?

independent variable

What is the dependent variable of the experiment?

Dependent Variable: - Something that might be effected by the change in the independent variable - What is observed - What is measured - The data collected during the investigation :)

What are the definition between indeoendent and dependent variables?

The independent variable determines the value of other variables and is change by the person doing the experiment. The dependent variable is what is affected by the independent variable; it "depends" on the independent variable.

What are the three types of variables?

The three types of variables are: Independent: it is the one that you manipulate Dependent: the one that reacts to the changes in the independent variable and is measured in a experiment Control: all the other factors that could affect the dependent variable but are kept constant through out an experiment
