Round can also refer to the process for truncating a value to fewer significant figures. EXAMPLE: 3.14159 rounded to 3 decimal places is 3.142. If the numeral AFTER THE 3rd significant figure you are using, is 5 or larger, then you always ADD 1, to the last figure you use. That is why instead of 3.141 we ADD 1 to the last figure because the 4th figure is a 5 .If the fourth figure was a 4, then we would have stuck with the 3.141as our answer.
