The actual line is Cowards die many times before their deaths; The valiant never taste of death but once. William Shakespeare, Julius Caesar
There are multiple versions of this quote.Ernest Hemmingway wrote in "A Farewell To Arms" that The coward dies a thousand deaths, the brave but one'.... (The man who first said that) was probably a coward.... He knew a great deal about cowards but nothing about the brave. The brave dies perhaps two thousand deaths if he's intelligent. He simply doesn't mention them.In Act 2 Scene II of "Julius Caesar", Shakespeare has Caesar sayingCowards die many times before their deaths; The valiant never taste of death but once.Of all the wonders that I yet have heard. It seems to me most strange that men should fear;Seeing that death, a necessary end,Will come when it will come.In Meredith Willson's "The Music Man", Professor Harold Hill says to Maude, A man can't turn tail and run just because a little personal risk is involved. What did Shakespeare say? 'Cowards die a thousand deaths, the brave man...only 500?'Tupac Shakur is also credited with another version of this quote.Playwright Arthur Miller (Marilyn Monroe's husband) had his own version of this quotation, but I can't find it right now. His most famous piece of work was "Death of a Salesman", about a coward beaten down by life, in which wife Linda says: I don't say he's a great man. Willie Loman never made a lot of money. His name was never in the paper. He's not the finest character that ever lived. But he's a human being, and a terrible thing is happening to him. So attention must be paid. He's not to be allowed to fall in his grave like an old dog. Attention, attention must finally be paid to such a person.
The line is often quoted as "A coward dies a thousand deaths, but the valiant taste death but once."The actual quote is from Act 1, Scene 2, Line 32 of "Julius Cesear", written by William Shakespeare:Julius Caesar: Cowards die many times before their deaths; The valiant never taste of death but once.
It is not in exactly those words and the phrase does not come from a poem, but from Shakespeare's play Julius Caesar. It is part of a line said by Julius Caesar himself: "Cowards die many times before their deaths; The valiant never taste of death but once. Of all the wonders that I yet have heard. It seems to me most strange that men should fear; Seeing that death, a necessary end, Will come when it will come. " In other words, you know you are going to die sooner or later, so why worry about which? You only make yourself suffer.
The word 'coward' is a noun, a word for a person who lacks the courage to do or endure dangerous or unpleasant things. Example:"A coward dies a thousand times before his death, but the valiant taste of death but once." William Shakespeare--* The suffix -ice added to coward creates the abstract noun cowardice. The suffix also appears in the nouns service (verb serve) and prejudice (verb prejudge).
Be brave!Be brave.man dies,but once.Swami Vivekananda.
There is an old proverb that says, "You die twice, once when your body dies and once when anyone who remembers you dies." It is certainly heartening to know that these people are not forgotten; like many of our ancestors, our friends, and relatives. We keep them alive in our thoughts and our hearts. There is also a proverb that says "A coward dies many deaths, a brave man only once." These are references to anticipation of death or forms of relative immortality outside the confines of being a living being. On the practical side, you can only die once. Death is the end of life. Once life is truly ended, it is not restored (except in the view of some religions) so a second death is not possible.
