A Safety Coordinator does many task's, much is observations, daily audits, Admin work, working on Kaizen's, Inspections, developing close ties between Employee's and Management, able to train associates on every job in the plant, and have clear understanding of all jobs, able to audit every job. Conducting Floor Safety Inspections also called FSI. Attending Business meetings. And so much more like thanking of ways to reduce injury yet saving the company money in the process.

Knowing Hazmat and fire codes, knowing everything there is to know about PIT equip; also called Fork trucks or forklifts. Must be a master teacher with abilities to give tests to associates after training and know the grading process.

Must be able to put together presentations in Power point and Excel and fluent with computer programs.

You must Know everything there is to know about Fall protection, know NEC electric codes, be aware of OSHA rules, NFPA Codesand Standards and when and were to apply them, look for hazards throughout the plant and know the process how to resolve issue. One should have good knowledge of current NFPA 70E Arc flash training. One should exercise ways and means to surpass OSHA guidelines. You must meet them ...however you should be able to pass them. Must be fluent with TDR-Trailer Docking and Release. Also part of the job is being able to engineer design and build tools that can not be bought or even exists ...and be able to do this within moments notice.

At lease this is what I've been doing in the last six years. Some say I just described a Specialist job rather than coordinator's job. I might add, Safety Specialist is the next step up the ladder. But I'm still considered only a coordinator.

Currently I have designed and built five tools that are now being used in daily production in my company. The one draw back to doing this, you are not legally eligible for the patent on tools you design and build (if) you did it on company time for the company in their building. However, you can certainly inscribe your name on it, date it and put it into a program and sign your name to it...but you are not the owner. I work 12 hr days and from time to time I work from home about an hour or two--without pay and that's cool.

(I don't mind that hour or two) ...because I love my work. But there is allot to being a coordinator. Hope this has been helpful.
