multiple means many. but in math it can mean what number multiplied by another number to get a larger number.
lets take the number 18.
the numbers 6 and 3 are multiple's of 18.
you can take the 6 further and say that 2 and 3 are multiple's of 6.
so you can ultimately say that 2 is a multiple of 18 and 3 is a multiple of 18. it takes 1 two and 2 threes to make 18.
The term "multiples of 3" is a common math term. Children learn about multiples at an early age when learning to skip count. 3, 6, and 9 are all multiples of 3.
