The same as in many programming languages and other places where formulae are used. The negative sign can basically do one of the following:
As a unary symbol (i.e., before a number), convert a positive to a negative, or a negative to a positive. For example, if "x" is positive, "-x" is negative, and vice versa.
As a binary symbol (i.e., between two numbers), it means subtraction.
The minus sign.
Multiply by -1
The minus sign: - Negative values can also be indicated by showing them in red or having brackets around them.
There are many signs used in Excel. Three of them are the plus sign (+), the minus sign (-) and the multiplication sign (*).
It depends on how the negative sign got on the cell. If you typed it, then edit the cell and remove the negative sign. If it was calculated and you want to show only the number without a sign, you can do one of two things:Multiply the results times -1.Use the ABS function to return the absolute value of the number. =ABS(2-3) will return 1 instead of -1.
Does the negative sign come before or after the dollar sign? The negative sign comes before the dollar sign.
In Excel an equation can be a formula. All formulas in Excel must start with the equals sign. That is what tells Excel it is a formula.
The ones with the + sign are positive. The ones with the - sign are negative.
All functions in Excel start with the = sign. So you may be mistaking that for two minus signs. An equal sign because in order for the formula to go through correctly it has to have an (=)
