== == A "Half Life" is the amount of time it takes for a chemicals atoms to deteriate to 1/2 of their original "strength". Example: A chemical is spread on your lawn...the Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) of that chemical says the half life is 14 days. So in two weeks you should expect that chemical to be at 1/2 the strength it was the day it was applied. One week after that 1/4 its strength and so on till its unmeasurable. FYI - ALWAYS ask for MSDS's or just Google them when chemicals are being used around you, pets, children, elderly, etc. I.E. - Weed Killers, inside spraying for pests, even harsh cleaners you regularly use in your home. You need to be informed!

Life span should probably be reserved for things which have life - living things. It is only by analogy that we consider the life of the universe, the Sun, the half life of radionuclides, the Plate Tectonic cycle, and so on. In manufacturing we may consider the product life cycle, or the expected life of a product such as a cellphone, but these again are only by analogy.
