"It is 1"

To add the two fractions you need to establish the least common denominator (LCD.) In order to do that you need to list the common multiples of the denominators. The common multiples of eight and six would look like this:

0, 8, 16, 24

0, 6, 12, 18, 24

In the list you would not have to include zero. Keep listing until you find two numbers that are the same. In the list, twenty-four is the least common multiple (LCM.) So, you would use twenty-four as your denominator. Keep in mind that you are going to create two equivalent fractions to add.

4/8 = 12/24

3/6 = 12/24

Now, add the two new equivalent fraction's numerators. Twelve plus twelve equals twenty-four. You now have the fraction 24/24, which equals ONE WHOLE.
