3/4 minus 2/3 is 1/12

How to work out 3/4 minus 2/3

  1. First find the LCD (Lowest Common Denominator) which is 12.
  2. Multiply the denominator (bottom number of the fraction) of each fraction by the necessary number so it becomes 12.
  3. Multiply the numerator (top number of the fraction) by the number used to multiply its corresponding denominator. You will now have fractions of equivalent value to their original numbers. They should share a common denominator; if not, attempt steps 1-3 again. You should end up with 9/12 minus 8/12.
  4. Since the fractions have common denominators you can just minus the numerators using simple subtraction arithmetic. I recommend you repeat primary school if you don't know this process, which I hope you know by now.
  5. If you successfully completed this process, you should end up with the answer 1/12.
