There is no direct conversion between square meters and meters as they measure different things:

  • square meters are a measure of area and have two dimensions
  • meters are a measure of length and has only one dimension

To convert requires losing a dimension, which requires a division by a length. For example, if the area is rectangular, then dividing its area (in square meters) by its width (in meters) will give its length (in meters).

If the shape is regular, for example a square then the length and width are the same, then so finding a square root will suffice.
