I believe that the answer to 4 * 1/2 is .0625. You start with .50, as .50=1/2. Multiply .50 by .50, you get .25
Multiply .25 by .50, you get .125.
Multiply .125 by .50, you get .0625.
At that point, you've multiplied 4 times, so your answer should be .0625.
Try this on a calculator and see how it works.

Another opinion:
If someone gives you 1/2 dollar four times, you have 2 dollars.
Here's a more formal way to think about it:
-- Multiplication is the same in either direction, so you could write the same question as "1 half times 4".
-- In math or arithmetic word problems, "times" can usually be changed to "of".
When you do that, the question becomes "What is 1 half of 4 ?"
Can you answer it now ?
1/4
it is still 4 and a half!!!! Because you've got 1 lot of 4 and a half is 4 and a half!!! Hope this helps x

1 and a half times 4 is equal to 6. To calculate this, you first multiply 1.5 (which is the same as 1 and a half) by 4. 1.5 x 4 = 6. This means that if you have 1 and a half of something and you multiply that by 4, you will have a total of 6 of that something.

9 * 1/2 = 9/2 = 4.5
4 and 1/2 times 6 is 4 times 6 + 1/2 times 6 = 24 + 3 = 27
if you mean 8 times a half, then you work it out like this: 2 times a half is: 1 4 times a half is: 2 8 times a half is: 3
