To find the LCM of two numbers you first need to split them into their prime factors:

6 = 2x3

4 = 2x2

The next step is to identify any common factors and cross off the duplicates. In this case both numbers have 2 as a prime factor. That leaves us with 2, 2 and 3. Multiplying these together gives 2x2x3 = 12

And thus the LCM of 6 and 4 is 12.
