Mathematician Srinivasa Aiyangar Ramanujan was born 22 December 1887 in Erode, Tamil Nadu state, India. (Erode is a small village about 400 km southwest of Madras.) When he was about one year old, he moved with his family to Kumbakonam (about 160 km closer to Madras.) He died in Kumbakoman, Tamil Nadu state, India on 26 April 1920.
