Best Answer

The F-duct is a small part of the rear wing of the McLaren MP4-25 car that was raced this 2010 season. This part uses a small air scoop mounted in front of the driver that channels air through a duct in the cockpit towards the rear of the car. Changes in the pressure in the duct, causes the rear wing to enter a stalled state, reducing aerodynamic drag and allow the car to gain an extra speed of around 6 mph (9.7 kmph) in the straight line. The effect is controlled by the driver covering up a small hole in the cockpit with his left leg.
