You can see protruding objects such as mountains, buildings, etc. from at the maximum of 2.5 miles but that is all. If you are on the ocean however you can see items taller than 2 miles high at the range of 5 miles. On flat land looking at flat land or protruding objects your maximum is 2.5 miles to answer your question.
