Select any 4 integers between 0 and 10. These will represent the first of the ordered pairs. For each of these select any one of the integers between -12 and 5. These need not be different from each other and will represent the second of the ordered pair. These four pairs defines a function.

There are more than 32 nonillion (32,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000) possible functions, so I hope you will understand why I do not wish to list them.

Is y equals negative one a function why or why not?

It depends on what the domain and the range are. If the range is the positive integers, then the mapping is not even defined.

Are the domain and range values of a sequence positive integers?

The domain is, but the range need not be.

What is the range of y equals 8x-3?

11

What is the relationships between inverse functions?

The inverse of the inverse is the original function, so that the product of the two functions is equivalent to the identity function on the appropriate domain. The domain of a function is the range of the inverse function. The range of a function is the domain of the inverse function.

Is it ever possible for the domain and range to have different numbers of entries what happens when this is the case?

Yes. Typical example: y = x2. To avoid comparing infinite sets, restrict the function to integers between -3 and +3. Domain = -3, -2 , ... , 2 , 3. So |Domain| = 7 Range = 0, 1, 4, 9 so |Range| = 4 You have a function that is many-to-one. One consequence is that, without redefining its domain, the function cannot have an inverse.

What is the example of the range and domain in a function?

A function is a mapping from one set to another. It may be many-to-one or one-to-one. The first of these sets is the domain and the second set is the range. Thus, for each value x in the domain, the function allocates the value f(x) which is a value in the range. For example, if the function is f(x) = x^2 and the domain is the integers in the interval [-2, 2], then the range is the set [0, 1, 4].

How does the domain relate to a function?

Any function is a mapping from a domain to a codomain or range. Each element of the domain is mapped on to a unique element in the range by the function.

What is the domain of the range?

The domain and range are two different sets associated with a relationship or function. There is not a domain of a range.

What are the domain and range of the function?

The domain of a function is the set of values for which the function is defined. The range is the set of possible results which you can get for the function.

How do you find the range of the function with the given domain?

The domain of the function 1/2x is {0, 2, 4}. What is the range of the function?

How can you find the domain and range of a function?

The domain is a subset of the values for which the function is defined. The range is the set of values that the function takes as the argument of the function takes all the values in the domain.

Which relation are function relation?

A relation is a mapping between two sets, a domain and a range. A function is a relationship which allocates, to each element of the domain, exactly one element of the range although several elements of the domain may be mapped to the same element in the range.
