Best Answer

For example

3 < 13 or 13 > 3

it means number 13 is greater than 3 just like 13 apples are more than 3 apples

in algebra you will have to use alphabet

For example

x < x+3 or x+3 > x (location doesn't matter)

it means x+3 is greater than x(this is an unknown quantity) and x can be 1,2,3,4,5,6 or any number unless it shows domain of it.

What does the math term greater than mean?

"Greater than" is the same as "Bigger than". In math, it really refers to where a number is located on the Number Line.
