First of all to correct your spelling. 'Are' is part of the verb 'to be'. The word you need is 'Area'. Note the spelling.

Secondly, under the Imperial system, it is NOT 'inches squared' but 'square inches' (sq.ins).

Area = length X width

Algebraically

A = lw

Algebraically rearrange

l = A/w

Substituting

l = 45 sq. ins / 10 ins

l = 4.5 inches.
