In driving: That point along your way toward a 'stale' green light where, having covered the brake, it would be unsafe to stop.

A stale green light is a green light accompanied by a pedestrian crosswalk hand symbol.

Covering the brake is a driver footwork technique where, having established sufficient momentum to carry the intersection with fuel, the foot moves to cover the brake in anticipation that a stop could possibly be made on the appearance of a yellow light.

Yellow lights serve two functions: (a) to advise of a change of right of way so that safe stops can be made by incoming vehicles to an impending red light. (b) to clear the intersection of vehicles either in it or so close to it a stop cannot safely be made.

What else can I help you with?
