Electrolysis is the process by which water can be split into Hydrogen Gas and Oxygen. This is done by running a current of electricity through the water which is diluted with sulphuric acid (or lemon water or salt) because it is a good conductor of electricity. Hydrogen is a Cation and Oxygen is an Anion then near the positive ends of the current you will find Hydrogen bubbles and the negative side you will find Oxygen bubbles.

What does Hydrogen peroxide decompose into?

Hydrogen peroxide decomposes into water and oxygen.

How can you decompose?

Electrolysis, by passing a spark through water to form hydrogen and oxygen gas. Electrolysis, by passing a spark through water to form hydrogen and oxygen gas. and heating is also a method.

How does water and oxygen decompose hydrogen peroxide?

The decomposition reaction is:2 H2O2 = 2 H2O + O2

Enzymes that cause hydrogen peroxide to decompose are called?

The enzyme catalase causes the decomposition of water into hydrogen and oxygen inside cells.

What would happen if platinum was added to hydrogen peroxide solution?

The platinum acts as catalyst and causes the hydrogen peroxide to decompose into water and oxygen.

Why does it not rain on the moon?

There is no atmosphere on the moon and no water.

Why is oxygen in the water molecules?

Water is made of two hydrogen atoms and an oxygen atom. The combination of hydrogen and oxygen is needed in order to create a molecule with the properties characteristic of water. Water cannot exist without oxygen.

Why is water formed when you mix hydrogen and oxygen gases?

Water is H2O. 2 hydrogen atoms and 1 oxygen atom. Water is not formed when you mix hydrogen and oxygen. An explosive mixture of hydrogen and oxygen is formed. When you burn hydrogen in oxygen, the resulting compound is water. When you boil water the result is steam, or water vapor. Boiling does NOT separate the hydrogen and oxygen. An electrical current is needed to separate the hydrogen and oxygen. CAUTION: Do NOT put salt in the water to speed up the electrolysis of water. It changes the products. instead of hydrogen and oxygen, you get hydrogen, chlorine (gas), and sodium hydroxide. The last two are very poisonous.

Does boiling decompose water?

No. Boiling water just changes the state of matter. From a liquid to a gas. still 2 hydrogen and still 1 oxygen

Does hydrogen peroxide blow up in water?

No. Hydrogen peroxide is usually dissolved in water to make it more stable. The peroxide you buy at the pharmacy is 3% hydrogen peroxide and 97% water. Pure hydrogen peroxide, which is a dangerously strong oxidizer, can explosively decompose into water and oxygen.

Catalist for separating hydrogen from water?

Catalysts speed a reaction that would naturally happen. Water does not spontaneously decompose into hydrogen and oxygen - it needs energy input to split. There is no catalyst that can change these facts.

Does sucrose decompose into hydrogen and oxygen?

No. When heated in an anoxic environment or exposed to sulfuric acid, sucrose decomposes into carbon and water.
