Why is professional courtesy used less frequently than in the past?

This is a cultural change in the western world where standards have eroded. Sometimes, being polite is considered a weakness (not so) All courtesy is a rather nice game played by those with style, but is now not considered of any value. However middle and far eastern countries still seem to practise courtesy in professional transactions as part of the ritual. Doesnt make them any less tough, but standards are more respected in the east.
