A meter stick is used to measure length and short distances. A meter stick is between 1.00m and 1.05m long. It is calibrated in cm and mm, which are the units it is used to measure. Measurement of distances of a number of meters was traditionally done with surveyor's tapes or chains; nowadays by interferometry using a laser. Ultra high precision measurement is mostly still done with a Fabry-Perot interferometer.
