You can use millimeters to describe the size of anything you want to. But if the

thing is too small, like a light wave, then the number will be inconveniently small.

And if the thing is too large, like a battleship or a planet, then the number will be

inconveniently large. Inconveniently large or small numbers are hard to write down,

remember, and tell other people about. Units of many different sizes were invented

so that no matter how large or small the object is, we can always find a unit for its

measurement that produces a convenient number.

Anything small can be measured in millimetres, wich is one of SI-recognised divisions of the metre. The others are the centimetre used in chemistry volumes, the nanometre and the micrometre. The only multiple of the metre is the kilometre. (All French words, hence their spellings.) Some examples:

Precision engineering components, and the ISO-M standard for screw sizes.

Scientific samples such as small creatures or grains of rock.

The apertures and focal lengths of lenses.

High-frequency radio wave, wavelengths.

Continental Drift (generally around 20mm/year).

Electrical wire diameters, hence the cross-sectional area that controls current maxima.

and many more...

Anything can be measured in millimeters. However, if you mean "What items would make sense measuring in millimeters?" then an example could be the width of a sheet of Plexiglas, or cardboard.
