one easy way to do this is a factor tree. so basically you find factors for the number until its a prime like this:

14 48

/ \ / \

7 2 6 8

/ \ / \

and since 7 and 2 are 3 2 4 2

prime the prime factorization is 7x2 / / / \ \

3 2 2 2 2

so the prime factorization is 3*2*2*2*2

then you find the greatest string of each number so it would be 7*3*2*2*2*2 which is 336 so the gcf of 14 and 48 is 336
