Screw thread for plastic bottles are specified by the Society of Plastics. This is one of those pieces of info that is hard to find on the web because it was all finished and in the standards books before the internet. The threads are special and called out as S40, S45, S50, etc. That's why many bottle caps are interchangeable. If you want info you may have to get the standards manuals.
