You can only simplify, and by the way you wrote it, it is a bit confusing. I'll assume you mean:

8y + 2 - 18y -5.

In order to do this you must combine like terms, or the same things. We can combine 8y and -18y, as they are both y.

8y - 18y = -10y.

Now we can combine 2 and -5, as they both are plain.

2 - 5 = -3.

Your final answer would be:

-10y - 3.
