"What else does this craving, and this helplessness, proclaim but that there was once in man a true happiness, of which all that now remains is the empty print and trace?
This he tries in vain to fill with everything around him, seeking in things that are not there the help he cannot find in those that are, though none can help, since this infinite abyss can be filled only with an infinite and immutable object; in other words by God himself"
[This is from page 75 of Blaise Pascal's Pensees (New York; Penguin Books, 1966).]

a boyfriend can absolutely give a girlfriend a Claddagh ring. on the right hand when worn, heart facing out.. means the wearers heart is available - single ... heart facing in the heart of the wearer is taken.. on the left hand.. facing in.. married. if out.. i have no idea.. the metal, platinum, for a girlfriend? in my book.. rather pricey,, sterling silver would be just as nice and probably alittle more practical for the ol' budget.. really it depends on what she likes. i wear silver now.. but hint around to the old man for a platinum one for engagement/wedding. Probably but I've never heard of it before. If they did they'd probably be laughed at though.
Pascal
Blaise Pascal has been described as a theistic humanist. He recognised that the existence of God can not be proved, but thought it wise to believe, just in case:Belief is a wise wager. Granted that faith cannot be proved, what harm will come to you if you gamble on its truth and it proves false? If you gain, you gain all; if you lose, you lose nothing. Wager, then, without hesitation, that He exists. Although unable to prove the existence of God, he also thought that humans had a spiritual need that could only be filled by belief:There is a God shaped vacuum in the heart of every man which cannot be filled by any created thing, but only by God, the Creator, made known through Jesus.
This phrase suggests that trying to apply logic or reason to emotions and feelings is futile because the human heart is inherently complex and driven by intuition and gut instincts. Emotions are often irrational and can't always be understood or explained logically. Thus, seeking logic in matters of the heart may lead to confusion and frustration.
No, you can not make someone like you, despite of your glowing qualities, because first of all, you can never control a person's mind who to like or to dislike, just your own. To put it this way, as Blaise Pascal said, "the heart has its reason in which reason knows nothing." Love yourself. Because when you feel good with yourself it reflects on the outside. That's the best you could do.
An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations.
