The third in order. It comes after the primary and the secondary.
In Chemistry:
I don't really know what a tertiary of the Dominican Order is, but here is the definition for tertiary:1. (adj.) tertiaryof the third order, rank, stage, formation, etc.; third.2. tertiarynoting or containing a carbon atom united to three other carbon atoms.3. tertiaryformed by replacement of three atoms or groups.4. tertiary(cap.) noting or pertaining to the earlier period of the Cenozoic Era, beginning about 65 million years ago, during which mammals gained ascendancy.5. tertiarynoting or pertaining to a Third Order.6. (n.) tertiary(cap.) the Tertiary Period or System.7. tertiary(often cap.) a member of a Third Order.Although all of the above mentioned are quite true & relevant to our word TERTIARY, there is one definition that hasn't been mentioned AND could very well be THE one that is used more frequently then the others and that is: a thing that is of least significance. For instance... "I would have to say that the #4 statement above is w/o question the most tertiary definition of the lot."(just a personal opinion of course).
Tertiary data sources compile and summarize information from primary and secondary sources. They do not involve original data collection or analysis, but instead provide an overview or interpretation of existing data. Tertiary sources are often used for background information or to gain a broad understanding of a topic.
Tertiary - Third So the tertiary comes third.
tertiary
The tertiary structure of DNA refers to how the double helix is further organized and folded into complex three-dimensional shapes. It includes interactions between distant parts of the DNA molecule, such as bending, looping, and twisting, which are important for regulating gene expression and DNA packaging. Tertiary structure is crucial for DNA to function properly within the cell.
A Tertiary Consumer: A carnivore at the topmost level in a food chain that feeds on other carnivores; an animal that feeds only on secondary consumers.
