The strong side of an offense is considered to be the side that the tight end lines up on. So a strong side linebacker would be playing defense on the side of the field that the tight end is lined up and the weak side linebacker would be playing on the other side of the field.
The difference between a strong side and a weakside linebacker, is that, a strong side is the side where the tightend or where the play is most likely to go. The weakside is the area where the ball is least likely to go. But no matter which one you are, always pop your feet and follow your defensive stunts.

A side is basically a geometrical shape; an edge is where two sides meet.

S- Sam, or, strong-side (side with the tight end)M- Mike, or, middleW- Will, or, weak-side
"WLB" is an abbreviation for "Weak-side Linebacker" (nicknamed "Will"), which is usually the linebacker that lines up next to the Middle Linebacker on the "weak" (side of the o-line opposite where the tight end is) side.
Terminology differs greatly all across the country. Traditional positions are: offense - quarterback, halfback, fullback, split end, flanker, left and right guard, left and right tackle, center, and tight end. defense -end, tackle, nose guard, inside linebacker, outside linebacker, cornerback, free safety, and strong safety. The linebacker positions could also be middle, strong side, and weak side. Some defenses will not use 3 linebackers and insert a nickel back.

The strong side linebacker lines up on the tight end side of the field. His primary responsibility is to read the tight end. If it's a pass he will drop into his assigned coverage (usually the flat to his side in a zone scheme) and if it is a run his job is to take on blockers and stuff the run at the point of attack. This is one reason that strong side linebackers usually have less tackles than weak side backers, who's primar job is to "scrape" and pursue the ball carrier.
The fourth side!
To get things started, the outside linebackers are just that...they cover plays on the outside to prevent plays along the outer perimeter, thus the inside linebackers play witin the inside to prevent a blast and to blitz. It really all depends on which defensive play you are running....i.e. 3-4, 4-3, 46. If a 3-4 is called, you then have 3 very big linemen, and four linebackers. But within this formation, you have a strong side and a weak side. This is usually used to disguise where the fourth rusher will be coming from. The two inside LB's, one will cover the run while the other will drop back if needed. Hope this helps.
Right Outside Linebacker is the weak side linebacker and is responsible for containing the run or outside. Sometime may have to drop back into pass coverage or blitz
A defensive player who lines up behind the defensive linemen and in front of the defensive backfield. The linebackers are a team's second line of defense.
