the independent variable is the variable that the scientist is changing. the dependent variable is what the scientist is measuring.

for example:

if i wanted to know how the amount of light a bean plant recieves affects its height, the amount of light would be the independent variable and the bean plant height would be the dependent variable

What is the difference between a dependant and independent variable?

Independent variable is a kind of variable in an experiment that can't be controlled or changed. While dependent variable is a result or effect of the independent variable.

What does the independent variable affect when it is changed?

The independent variable sometimes changes the dependant variable, because it is dependant on the other variable. Sometimes the independent variable doesn't change the dependant variable, in which case there is no causation between the two variables.

What is the difference between an independent variable and a dependent variable in an experiment?

An independent variable can be changed itself and does not vary if other items around it are changed. A dependant variable changes it value in response to changes in other items.

Difference between dependent variable and independent variable?

independent variable: factors in a experiment which you have control of and can change it. dependant variable: factors in a experiment that you have no control of and which and can't change it when wanted : D good luck. God Bless Madison

What is difference between the Dependant variable and the independent variable in an experiment?

The independent variable is what you did differently in the experiment compared to the controlled experiment; it's also called manipulated variable. The dependent variable is what changed in the experiment as a result of the independent variable; it's also called the responding variable x hope this helps :)
