Interlaboratory Testing Programs (ILTPs) (i.e. Interlaboratory Comparisons) are similar in intent to round robin tests; both are a type of proficiency testing. Both attempt to increase the understanding of the precision and influence factors for the analytical tests being performed along with the performance of the laboratories (personnel and facilities) that do the tests. This will hopefully improve the quality of the analyses performed.

ILTPs are typically run by an unbiased party, with identical samples sent out for analysis to multiple labs. The test results are sent in to the party running the ILTP which blinds the data (hides which test result comes from which lab), performs a review of the data and returns a report to the participants. In most cases the participant only knows their individual result.

Round-robin testing is typically arranged by one of the participants and involves sending the same or identical samples to several labs (more than 4 or 5 labs is unusual). The participants are often different sites for the same company or labs in one geographical region. All participants may be aware of each other's test results. A formal report is not necessarily prepared.

In summary,

ILTPs involve a greater number of more diverse participants than RRs.

ILTP organizers are independent of participants whereas RR organizers may be participants.

ILTP results are blinded whereas RR results may not be.

ILTPs results are formally analyzed and documented whereas RR results may not be.

ILTP results (In ASTM terms - Interlaboratory Study or ILS) may be sufficient to prepare a statistical precision statement for an industry standard test method whereas RR results cannot typically be used for establishing a test method precision.

ILTPs are likely to detect common faults whereas the limited number and diversity of participants in RRs may not.

Another term for ILTP is Interlaboratory Crosscheck Program.

Note that industry usage of these terms is not precise and that they may be used interchangeably.

What is the difference between the 'Drug Tests' and the 'Laboratory Testing' categories on WikiAnswers?

"Laboratory Testing" can refer to any kind of testing that occurs in a laboratory. This includes the tests themselves, the results, methodology, protocols, etc. "Drug Tests" is a very small part of "Laboratory Testing." However, while it is mostly scientists who are interested in overall laboratory testing, lots and lots of folks are interested in drug testing: the tests that are applied to see what (usually recreational) drugs a person has used, or is using. It's important to note that this isn't a how-to book for criminals to avoid legitimate testing. First, the legality of drug testing outside of the legal/law enforcement community -- and the way that information is handled -- is constantly in the legal spotlight. And it should be. It's a hugely intrusive test that can easily yield false positives (and negatives). It's a test in which the results can change the rest of your life. So, due to the not-unexpected interest in this aspect of lab testing, there's a specific category that applies only to this subset.

What are the significant differences between a Laboratory Assistant and a Laboratory Technician?

What are the significant differences between a laboratory assistant and a laboratory technician? The significant differences between a Laboratory assistants and laboratory technicians are types of work they perform and their level of education. Laboratory assistants generally hold associate degree and perform basic testing procedures and conduct fluid analysis in order to diagnose a patient. They also involves in quality control, data entry, filing, and database administration. Laboratory technicians carry out routine laboratory tests and perform a variety of technical support functions to help scientists, technologists and others with their work. They can work in research and development, scientific analysis and testing, education and manufacturing. Generally laboratory technicians hold higher degree than laboratory assitant.

How does the setting of Flowers for Algernon affect the plot?

By the setting being in New York in the 1960s in a laboratory it affects the plot by the doctors and professors being in the laboratory and closer to the testing lab. Instead of coming from their home, going to get Charlie from his home. going to the lab at the laboratory, and getting the testing tools out they can just stay at the laboratory. So they can go straight to the testing lab and continue testing it out and try it on Charlie. Then work with Charlie in the laboratory to help him get smarter.
