Estimating is just an educated guess. For example, if you have to solve the problem 102.17 plus 266.18, you would make an educated guess. An educated guess would be 100+ 270 which equals 370. When you are rounding, you will usually get instructions to round a certain number. It is knowing the exact value, but finding the nearest whole number.

For example: Round to the nearest hundredth

4.6781

If you are rounding to the nearest hundredth, you are trying to round the number 8, since it is in the hundredths spot. To round 8, look at 1. Is it greater than 5? If the number is greater than 5, round the number up by 1. If the number is smaller than 5, the number remains the same.
