A millionth of the distance that it travels in one second. Take the speed of light, in meters/second or kilometers/second, or even in miles/second, then divide that by a million to get the distance per microsecond.

He's asking how much time does it take, not the distance. He knows the distance is 1 mile. How long does it take for light to travel 1 mile. So in 1 second we know light travels 186,000 miles. How do you figure the time it takes light to go 1 mile?

The speed of light in a vacuum is 2.998 x10^8 m/s. In one microsecond, 1x10^-6 s, light travels 2.998x10^2 m, or 299.8 meters
