3 out of 4
2/4=4/8
I assume you mean subtracting a fraction from another fraction. In this case, you need to multiply both the top and bottom number by another number so both fractions have the same bottom number. Then you can subtract the top numbers and simplify if needed. (ex. 7/8 - 1/2 = ? ...... 7/8 - 1/2(4/4) = ? ...... 7/8 - 4/8 = 3/8) If you can't just multiply one of fractions to get the same bottom number as the other fraction, multiply them both by different numbers until you get the same bottom number. (ex. You could use the same equation as in the first example, but make the bottom number 16 instead, just as an example..... 7/8 - 1/2 = ? ...... 7/8(2/2) - 1/2(8/8) = ? ...... 14/16 - 8/16 = 6/16 ...... Simplify 6/16: 6/16 take 2 out of top and bottom both = 3/8).
100 over 300 and 2 over 6
Equivalent fractions are when there are two or more fractions that are equal to the same amount. For example if you were to have a cake and slice it in half (two equal slices using the whole cake) and you took 1/2 it would be equal to taking 2/4 or 4/8. These are the easiest equivalent fractions to learn as if you double the denominator, you double the numerator. You can also do this with mixed number fractions. 1 and 1/2 is equivalent to 3/2 because you have 2 pieces in the full one and you have one piece in the other cake, and 2 add 1 = 3 therefore you must have 3/2 but its an improper fraction so you must convert it into a mixed number fraction which is the 1,1/2. Hope this helped :)
