You could say that the greatest common multiple is infinity since there are an infinite number of common multiples. If you give a specific number as the greatest common multiple, you can always find a larger one by doubling it.

For example, 9856 is a common multiple of 88 and 112. But, it is not the greatest common multiple. I can double it to make a larger common multiple: 19,712. I could multiply this one by 100 to make an even larger common multiple: 1,971,200. I can always make a larger common multiple.
