To find the greatest factor of a number (other than itself) you first need to find the prime factors of that number. In this case, the prime factors of 100 are 2, 2, 5 and 5. The next step is to multiply all these together, except the smallest (2). This means you multiply 2x5x5. That works out at 50. Thus the greatest factor of 100 (other than itself) is 50.
