Taking each number in turn we factor it into primes :- 1) 48 = 2 * 2 * 2 * 2 * 3 = 2 ^4 * 3 ^1 2) 70 = 2 * 5 * 7 = 2 ^1 * 5 ^1 * 7^1 For each prime factor we take the one with the largest number as the index, eg for the factor 2 , we have 4 and 1. The largest is 4 and so on for each prime factor that occurs and then multiply them together so we have all together 2 ^4 * 3 ^1 * 5^1 * 7^1 = 16*3*5*7 = 1680 which is the Lowest Common Multiple of 48 and 70.
