For the first letter there are 26 choices, for the second also, but for the third just one choice (the same letter as the second) and for the fourth one choice (the same as the first letter)

so there are 26x26 palindromes

and 26x26x26x26 possible words of four letters

so the probability would be (26x26) / (26x26x26x26)

If aaaa is not to be consider as a palindrome then it's (26x25) / (26x26x26x26)
