Ok so say you have a problem like 3/6 -7/5. You need a common denomonator, in this case 30. you get this by multiplying the first fraction by 5/5 which makes the 'new' fraction 15/30. You then multiply the next fraction by 6/6 to get 42/30.

you then subtract the numeraters and the denominator is unchanged. the answer would be -27/30 (15-42=-27)
