The second year of hijrah is the second year after the prophet muhammad (pbuh) migrated from makkah to madinah.
Muhammad's departure to Yathrib is known as the Hijrah. The year the Hijrah took place marks the begining of the Islamic era and is recognized as the first year of the Muslim calendar.

The Hijrah is just as good as any other historical event to base a calendar on. Back in those days, people were not bothered about their ages or date of birth. Hence the year of birth of the Prophet has never been a relevant landmark. The other historical landmark could have been the year of the Call- the year in which Prophet Muhammad received his first revelation. But Caliph Umar the second caliph after MUHAMMED found the Hijrah an acceptable landmark probably because all people living in ARABIA at the time were somehow able to identify themselves with the Great Migration. than with any other historical event. Well, that's my guess.
hijrah was migration
During the hijrah, Muhammad and his followers moved from Mecca to Medina, which was then known as Yathrib. This migration occurred in 622 CE and marked a significant turning point in early Islamic history, as it established the first Muslim community and allowed Islam to grow and flourish away from the persecution faced in Mecca. The year of the hijrah also marks the beginning of the Islamic calendar.
