The existing record for the largest pumpkin ever is 2009 pounds. It was grown in 2012 by Ron Wallace of Greene, Rhode Island. It was displayed at a fair in Topsfield MA on September 28, 2012. It was not uniform in shape, and was fairly flat, no more than 4 feet high in any dimension.
