In measurements, square units are units for the measure of area.

But square units can appear in many different situations:

They can also appear in statistical variances. If the mass of a set of objects is measured in kilograms, the variance would be in square kilograms or kilograms squared.

The force of gravity, between two objects is directly proportional to the product of their masses (a squared mass unit) and inversely proportional to the square of the distance between them (a squared distance unit). Force, itself, is defined in terms of squared units of time.
