Time travel, for the time being, is very hypothetical. So far, it has not been possible to travel in time, and perhaps it never will. Thus, it can't be said what math or science you need. But if you want to do a breakthrough in time travel - which is very doubtful will ever happen - you will probably require some very advanced math and science.
It depends what you need to calculate. There are various formulas for this. It is a branch of mathematics called trigonometry.
Physics, mathematics, chemistry, statistics, thermodynamics...
You can learn certain things that are used to calculate some numbers in Physics. If you are in Advanced Physics you need to know Mathematics to continue. So I would say no. You have to learn both in order to be good, starting with Mathematics
A surveyor would need to know basic mathematics with additional knowledge of trigonometry.
They need to be able to be very good a mathematics and draw things to scale and be good when it comes to computers.
electromagnetic waves
You might need math to calculate the sales and profits and predict whether or not your business is going to thrive or fail.
Electromagnetic waves don't need anything to travel. This kind of waves does not need a medium to move through, therefore they can even travel through outer space.

a light wave?
To know how fay you travel in one rotation of the wheel.
