It depends on the area of the law in which the legal assistant works. For example, if the legal assistant is working for a family law attorney, then the legal assistant should be able to assist in calculating child support payments, anticipating statutory deadlines, and perhaps taking payments from clients. Hence, basic math skills will probably suffice.
However, legal assistants for other types of attorneys may need additional math skills, such as those working for patent attorneys.
