That pretty well describes any hammerless action. -- Not Completely -- Most 'hammerless' boxlock actions do in fact have internal hammers. The later Stevens 311 guns have them. However, certain earlier submodels of the 311, the Stevens 330, 3151, 315 and so forth actually do not have hammers at all. The firing pins are very long and extend back into the action and are actually themselves held against spring tension by the sears. Pulling the trigger lowers the sear associated with that trigger and allows the firing pin to go forward under tension from its spring, firing that barrel. I have a friend who owns a Riverside with hammers, it also is a shootable gun.AnswerI have a 16 ga. double with external hammers pat. feb. 10 1914 still shoots, however it is chambered for 2@9/16`` instead of 2@3/4``. Answer"Riverside" was a brand model shotgun produced by the J. Stevens Co. The approximate dates are abt 1886-1916. In 1920 Stevens started using the "J. Stevens Arms Co." instead of the Stevens Tools and Arms of earlier versions - I think Crackshots were made thru 36 (?) - so I'm assuming yours is a later version - 1920-36. Hope that helps THe No 26 was manufactured from 1912 - 1939.
