What was the hittites economy like?

INTRODUCTIONThe hittite were among the later immigrants along side the Babylonians and the Sumerians in the near east. They established their society first at Anatolia and began to expand eastwards into the Nile valley. The hittites were believed to be Indo-european people and have been described by scholars as having migrated from the area known as Steppes, near the Caspian sea. The Hittites then infiltrated Anatolia by merging with the natives there through inter-marriages and cordial and peaceful living in around 2700B.C. The Hittites, however were among the first to develop in iron technology in the near east. Consequently, they were able to make superior tool and weapons both for agriculture and warfare and this enabled them to gain an upper hand over their neighbours in terms of warfare and commerce. As a result, the Hittites were able to build a very giant and in fact strong empire stretching as far east as Babylon and for that matter proceeding to displace the flourishing civilization of the Babylonians set up mainly by the works of their king Hammurabi. Not satisfied with the extent of their territory, the Hittites again in around 1300B.C. conquered the rich civilization of Egypt in the battle of Kaddish which marked the beginning of the end of the Egyptian civilization. In fact, the Hittites actually dominated the and controlled almost all parts of the near east for about two(2) centuries. However, after reigning for a number of centuries, the Egyptians together with the Hittites were defeated by another group of invaders often referred to as the 'sea people' by the Egyptians.STRUCTURE OF THE HITTITE SOCIETYJust like most other societies in the ancient world, the Hittites had their almighty King at the apex of the society, of course aided by his nobles. Almighty in the sense that he also doubled up as the chief priest and judge as well as the supreme commander. Quite parallel to the King was the Queen who observed an independent position and was tasked with the job of maintaining diplomatic ties with other queens abroad. Below the King and Queen were the Aristocracy of which the King's relatives were seen. Here, the Aristocracy were found to be rowdy and dominated the royal administration. Next to the Aristocracy was the Warriors who formed and assembly of their own called Pantus. The Pantus usually met to hear the intentions and wills of the King and also possessed the right of a law court and thus, could punish criminals. At the bottom of the society as characterized by most societies in the ancient world was the slaves. Here, the slaves enjoyed certain rights.

What did the supreme courts decision in the case of marbury v madison do for the supreme courts?

The decision in Marbury helped establish the Judicial branch, lead by the Supreme Court, as co-equal with the Legislative and Executive branches, when Chief Justice Marshall affirmed the courts' power of judicial review.Marshall's interpretation of Article III was that, as an independent branch of the federal government, part of the Court's responsibility was judicial review, which allows the Supreme Court to analyze legislation relevant to a case before the Court and nullify any laws they determine to be unconstitutional. This enabled the Court to check the power of the Legislative and Executive branches by preventing them from imposing legislation that violated citizens' constitutional rights.Case Citation:Marbury v. Madison, 5 US 137 (1803)
