You use area to figure out how much you need to order in supplies when you want to carpet a floor, paint a room, build a deck, seed a new lawn, water a cornfield, or make a tarp for the school's baseball field or a quilt for your bed. You also need to know the area to figure out how long it will take you and how much you should charge, to harvest the cornfield or mow a big lawn.
