For it to have two equal roots then the discriminant of the quadratic equation must equal zero:-

242-4*(b) = 0

576 -4*(b) = 0

-4*(b) = -576

Divide both sides by -4 to find the value of b:

b = 144

So the quadratic equation is: x2+24x+144 = 0

When factored: (x+12)(x+12) = 0

Therefore: x = -12 or x = -12
